Corvain family
A lesser noble house of Amulta, not one of the eight that govern it, whose magic-carrying blood produced two sons and whose news never reached it
A noble house of Amulta, and a lesser one. It is not among the eight great houses that govern the country, and that distinction was made plainly by the Amultan soldiers who first spoke of it: a lesser family still pulls, hard enough that a foreigner should understand it is not a small thing to be attached to one.
What the house is known for is magic in the blood. Two sons carried it. Raerin was training toward the gish and never finished, and went west out of a country at war to argue its case, and did not come back out of the hills. Tristan tested the sharper of the two and went away to train somewhere else, and the men who served alongside his brother saw very little of him. A mother is spoken of once, in a soldier’s joke at a graveside, and nothing else about her was written down.
Jaden, reasoning at that grave over what had become of the last man unaccounted for, worked it to two possibilities: he had gone looking for the survivors, or he had done his duty and gone home to inform the Corvain family. He was never found either way. Nobody of the house has since appeared, sent word, or been reached by anyone, and whether Amulta ever learned what happened to its son on that road is not something anybody west of the mountains has been able to establish.
