Jewels of Erôth

The Jewels of Erôth is a prominent charitable organization in Aurôrum, dedicated to collecting and caring for orphans from all over Erôth. This organization not only provides for the children’s immediate needs but also assesses and educates them as they grow, assigning roles and responsibilities that match their capabilities and passions. To the general populace, the Jewels of Erôth appear to be a benevolent institution focused solely on the welfare and education of these children.

Closer in, the charity is the smaller half of it. The Jewels hold real influence across the continent, and their members (each given a surname corresponding to a precious, semi-precious, or quasi-precious stone) are placed through every sector of society. Why one member draws one stone and not another was never written down, and the people who deal with the Jewels go on looking for the pattern.

Factions

The Jewels of Erôth are divided into several categories, each representing different roles within the organization:

• Pyrite: Manual laborers of all kinds, essential for the foundational work of the organization.
• Citrine: Merchants who handle trade and commerce, ensuring the economic stability and growth of the organization.
• Amber: Amanuenses who serve as secretaries and record keepers, managing the extensive documentation and administration.
• Diamond: Muses and diplomats, individuals who inspire and negotiate, often acting as the public face of the Jewels of Erôth.
• Ruby: ‘Muses’, spies, and assassins, operating in the shadows to gather intelligence and eliminate threats.
• Moissanite: The matriarchs and patriarchs of the organization, the leaders who oversee and direct all activities.

Campaign Updates

The organization answers to no nation. It sits in Amulta geographically and keeps hands in a good many countries besides: Amulta itself and Escaria most of all. That is a useful arrangement for a body that would rather not explain itself to anyone’s crown.

The party’s dealings with it have been indirect and unflattering. Boras, the hobgoblin who kept Beltran Grayeras’s books, is an Amber Jewel; their work for Beltran was exactly the administration the Ambers are trained for, applied to a slaver’s ledger. And the charitable face has begun to look thin from close up. What the party heard in S2E26 was that the orphan-rearing is a front: the children are collected, assessed, sorted, and placed because placed people are useful, and the kindness is real but is not the point.

Nobody has proved this. It is what people who have dealt with the Jewels say when they are being candid, which is not the same thing.
