A draught that gets you the meaning of something you can already read

Not a translation. Drink it and the words do not change: a script you could not read before is still closed to you. What it gives is depth on the near side of that line: you look at something you already understand and understand it much further in. The comparison the alchemist reached for was a song. You could always read the lyrics. Now you know what the song is about.

It came out of the same rotted cubby as the Stone Wrap, one of three vials, and was identified at Gwenivere’s shop with the archaeologist’s help. The third of the three was never named.

Mikhail drank it a season later to get through the cipher on a green volume of the Mól Encyclopædia, and sat up the whole night over it. He broke it.
