Restorative Brew
The Chantry's bitter tea. It heals fast, and it costs
A tea the Chantry of Tranquility keeps for the gravely wounded, brewed from herbs expensive enough that the physicians do not offer it to most people. It works. It will bring a man back from very close to the edge, and quickly. It is also a hallucinogen, and the price of it is fever, vivid nightmares, and a pull toward drinking it again.
Koa was given a cup of it in the Haudh-Gwenn hospital after the slaver cave. The masked healers would not release him until he had been washed, dressed and dosed, over the party’s objections that they had urgent business waiting in the city. He was told it was a special tea and that he had earned it, and swallowed it in one go before anyone could finish explaining. He was asked to lie back for one last look-over. Then he saw two of everyone in the room, and after that the incense and a long fevered night in which he met his own eyes and lost an argument with them.
He came out of it whole. What he told the party afterwards was that they had given him some kind of tea, and then there were eyes, and then they were his own eyes, and then he was on the floor, and that he knew he was not making sense.
