Ring of Säv

A plain electrum band, and one of the great clan relics: the ring of the head of Clan Säv, who were fiercely loyal to the Emperor and whose secrets went with them. It is a key. Not to one lock, but to Mól locks generally: a hand wearing it can work sealed things it has no training for, and the ring knows when its siblings are nearby.

Kurvroc gave it to Mikhail in gratitude for a month spent breaking Mól ciphers at his table, believing it his own family’s Muharib heirloom. The clan is wrong, but the motto inscribed on it is Muharib’s own, by thy service and by thy loyalty, all paths open to thy sovereignty, and nobody has accounted for why one clan’s regalia carries another clan’s words.

Mikhail has never put it on. He has carried it unworn and unattuned since the day it was handed to him, and nobody outside the three of them is supposed to know he has it. What it costs to wear, and what it did to the people who wore it before, is not written down anywhere they have found.
