Erwin Emeric
Paladin of Vigil and Sword-Keeper, who carries the Sword of Vigilance for a town that has nobody to hand it to
Between one ruler and the next, Vigil gives the Sword of Vigilance to a sword-bearer, who does not wield it and takes no authority from it. Erwin Emeric has held that duty since Lady Vigil Octavia was buried and the sword chose nobody to replace her. He is one of the town’s paladins and, by Theresa Sarros’s account, among the most devout people in it.
The company noticed him before anyone told them who he was: an armored man walking the town wearing two swords, his own at his hip and an ornate one strapped across his back. It is carried that way so his body can take the extra weight. Asked about it, Rafi gave the name and then added, more to himself than to anybody listening, that Erwin still has it.
