Johanka Materai
Councilwoman of Haudh-Gwenn; keeps the bank, and keeps what the bank hears.
Among the younger of the Haudh-Gwenn councilwomen: late twenties, and seated not by election but by inheritance. Her parents died in an accident that was never written down, and the seat and the estate came to her together.
She keeps the bank as well as the seat. The council handed it to her after Beltran Grayeras made a wreck of it and was moved up to the captaincy of the guard, and in a town where the Grayeras hold the other purse it is worth more than it sounds. What the party gathered of how she keeps it is uglier. She trades in things people would rather were not known, and her own household supplies the lesson: her estranged spouse Freya, who took the Materai name, is said to be losing the family’s money in gutter games. Whether Johanka trades on that knowledge or merely holds it was never discovered.
Her estate has a cellar of Mól stone. The party’s interest in her began there rather than at the council table, and it began with Edrick, who pointed them at the house as a second way into the Mól ruins in case the front door failed them. The ground it backs onto may be the ruins, and the estate may sit above the keep itself. May, in both cases. Nobody has dug.
