Rena "the Destroyer"
The insurgent whose emergence reopened Taziondale's war for its annexed ground, and the most wanted name in Vala
Peredhel took roughly a sixth of Taziondale in an earlier campaign and kept it, and the ground it kept is rich enough in high-quality and rare ore to have propped up Peredhel’s material strength ever since. Taziondale has never stopped trying to take it back. The fighting there is not done by armies but by militias raised locally, cell by cell, and those cells have turned markedly more aggressive since a figure known only as Rena the Destroyer emerged among them. What she reopened had been going quietly for years.
Peredhel’s own soldiers keep the fullest account of her. She burned a camp in Vala where conscripts were being trained for the army and turned the trainees loose out of it; she laid siege to Momly; she has killed Peredhel soldiers by the dozen. Some of them call her the queen of regime changes. Peredhel has put fifty sovereigns on word leading to her head, and set a field-commander, Barbara Barnes, on finding her. Where she actually is has never been established.
Campaign Updates
She has reached the Valiant Few twice, and never once in person.
The first time was on paper. Among the old jobs decoded out of the Ebon Ledger, the book Ebon Ink kept of its work, was an investigation into who had been wrecking the caravans in Vala. The name written against it was Rena the Destroyer (S5E55).
The second was a soldier talking. In Haudh-Gwenn, Koa fell into conversation with a lieutenant out of Vala who had come south to buy horses, and came away with the whole catalogue of her: the camp, the siege, the byname, the price. Retelling it to the others afterward, what he fixed on was that the man had broken off the horse-trading to ask whether he had heard about Rena’s siege on Momly, abruptly and out of nowhere, and had struck him as a little out of his mind for it. Not one of the party knew the name (S6E67, S6E68).
