Peredhel's conquest-servitude "choice" system

STANDING: LAWS · PEREDHEL · CONQUEST-SERVITUDE

“The Choice”

A brutal rite of integration into Peredhel society, In Ikhtar offers three options: serve, labor, or die. All non-citizens must undergo In Ikhtar to become Khadimé, second-class citizens. Those who survive and serve the nation further may earn elevation to Ikhtari, Peredhel’s highest class.

Despite its name, the “choice” is often forced, symbolic, or suicidal. It is less about freedom, and more about obedience, sacrifice, and the will to endure. This is the way of Lady Eravil Dark Eyes.

The terms are fixed. Three years under arms, or seven of public labor, or death: and a Khadimé who wants to rise to Ikhtari must pass through it twice more after that. The state does not regard this as harsh. It regards it as the price of a citizenship that was, once, extended to people who had just been slaves.

The party has met the rite mostly through the people who put it down. Vigil was founded by Peredhel émigrés who abandoned In Ikhtar and Mette-hina together on arriving in Idir, and has kept neither since. Whatever they call it, the terms are the same: three years of a life, or seven, or the end of one.

Formerly In Climë. The rite was called that until around S4E51, and older mouths and older paperwork still do. It is the same rite under both names, and nothing about the terms changed with the word.
