Vroga Waruk, known as the Breaker of Chains, is the god of those who act while others talk. He despises empty words and wasted time, favoring those who take immediate and decisive action. He blesses all weapons ever wielded in combat and is present whenever two people meet in battle. Even the orcs revere him as Vroga, believing he shares their bloodlust and fury. Some dismiss that as simple superstition; others answer that orcs embody exactly the ferocity that would make the God of Battle proud. Vroga Waruk’s favor is not limited to any one race; anyone who raises their weapon to break chains or spill blood in battle can earn his blessing.

History

The God of Battle has existed as long as there has been conflict on Aurôrum, known by many names throughout the ages. His power waxes and wanes with the tides of war. With the recent surge in conflicts as human nations fractured, he has ascended to his most potent form in millennia, Vroga Waruk. A few centuries ago, the orcs began worshiping him as Vroga, a powerful symbol for their horde.

Clerics of Vroga Waruk believe he was born from the first clash of weapons on Aurôrum. Whether that clash was between gods or mortals is debated, but all agree on his divine nature. Vroga is the embodiment of the will to wage war, drawing strength from conflict. While many hope for lasting peace, Vroga’s devout followers actively work against it, fearing that peace would lead to his demise.

Dogma

The dogma of Vroga Waruk, the Breaker of Chains, centers on the principles of strength, action, and liberation. His followers live by a creed that values immediate action, personal strength, and the breaking of chains as the highest virtues.

Tenets of Faith

• Strength Above All: Seek to improve your physical and mental prowess. Respect those who display true strength. The weak must strive to better themselves or be left behind.
• Action Over Words: Act swiftly and decisively. Do not waste time with idle chatter or endless planning. Hesitation is a sign of weakness.
• Break the Chains: Liberation is sacred. Free the oppressed and break the bonds that constrain them, both physical and metaphorical.
• Honor in Battle: Engage in combat with honor and ferocity. Respect your foes, as they provide the opportunity to prove your strength. Cowardice in battle is unforgivable.
• Chaos as Opportunity: Embrace the chaos of conflict. It presents opportunities for growth and glory.

Rituals and Practices

• Weapon Blessings: Bless weapons for combat using ceremonial herbs, intense martial rituals, or even blood.
• Breaking Chains Ceremonies: Conduct public ceremonies to symbolically or literally break chains, celebrating liberation.
• Combat Trials: Participate in combat trials to test and improve abilities, ranging from sparring matches to dangerous duels.
• Battle Hymns: Chant and sing battle hymns before and during combat to inspire courage and invoke Vroga Waruk’s presence.

Consequences of Transgression

• Coward in Battle: Cowardly or (in some traditions) dishonorable conduct results in shunning and dangerous trials for redemption.

Worshipers

In Erôth, a land of near-constant war, Vroga Waruk is one of the most powerful deities due to the sheer number of his worshipers. Nearly everyone who has wielded a weapon or fought a battle has encountered his clergy. Temples dedicated to Vroga resemble military fortresses or pit fighting arenas, featuring barracks, mess halls, armories, and training grounds rather than traditional sanctuaries. Even a simple circle on the ground with weapons at hand can serve as a place of worship.

Proud soldiers, traveling brigands, mercenaries, and tribal warriors all count themselves among Vroga’s followers. His church lacks a central authority, often supporting both sides of a conflict. However, within individual temples or orders, there may be a set hierarchy, allegiance, or goal.

Orders and Sects

Order of the Broken Chain

Warriors of this order specifically target slave traders and slave owners. They operate outside the law, believing that all people should be free. They are relentless in their pursuit of justice and liberation, often employing brutal methods to dismantle the slave trade.

Order of the Broken Shield

This group is composed primarily of mercenaries who crave the thrill of being the first in combat. They aim to break the will of their enemies long before breaking their bodies, often using psychological tactics and displays of overwhelming force to demoralize their foes.

Order of the Iron Fist

This order is dedicated to upholding the principles of strength and dominance. They believe in survival of the fittest and often challenge other warriors to duels to prove their superiority. They act as enforcers within Vroga’s temples, ensuring that only the strongest lead and that the weak are weeded out.

Campaign Updates

Koa asks him for a fair fight. It is a short prayer, said before the swing rather than after, and it is one of the prayers in his ideopan he says out loud, alongside Snaga’s over the blade itself.

Koa wants his weapon blessed and his fight fair, and he asks two different gods for two things that do not obviously go together.

Both Koa and the Amultan soldier Jaden carry what fighters call the spark of Vroga: the sign that the Breaker of Chains has looked at a warrior once, in a battle, and noted them (S3E31). What it entitles the bearer to was never settled. Most who have it are careful not to ask.
