Kurvroc

The Kurvrocs are the oldest family still standing in Loshev, tailors and merchants of good cloth, and they date themselves to the Mól Empire. Their only real competitors have always been the Crestbornes, and the quarrel between the two houses is older than either shop: at the height of Kurvroc power under the empire, Kurvroc ancestors held Crestborne ancestors as slaves. Neither family has let it go in the generations since, and as rival merchants they have had a fresh reason to keep it current every year.

Torgun Kurvroc, who led the family in his own lifetime, used the public discovery of Loshev’s part in the slave trade against them. He tied Crestborne names to his own criminal contacts, none of it true, and came near to running the family out of the town on it. The rumor that the Kurvrocs keep connections to the Mól Syndicate back in Yovance has never been proved and has never gone away.

Campaign Updates

The family’s claimed inheritance came and took the rest of it. Torgun spent his life insisting on descent from the Muharib, the empire’s portal-guards, and the Muharib turned out to be alive: a living clan that came to Loshev, sacked the Kurvroc estate for the Mól relics it held, mauled the town guard and went south.

Then he died, and the house left the family altogether. The council administered the will, since Loshev keeps no solicitors, and read it to a room of hobgoblins who had come from Draazstone for it. Most of what he had promised them was gone with the raiders. The estate itself, whole and undivided, went to Mikhail Kethrel, who is not a hobgoblin, is not kin, and had known the old man chiefly as an obstacle. The claimants were on him inside the minute, holding paperwork in the names of dead men, and the family’s own succession is now a matter of who can produce a document rather than who lives in the house.
