Grishka's chain-cutting axe
A notched, reinforced Order axe, made for manacles rather than men
An axe of the Order of the Broken Chain, notched and reinforced along the edge so that it will go through a manacle without turning. Every member of the Order carries one. This one was Grishka’s, who was the best of them: a tracker with famously keen eyes, sent out ahead to count the gnolls while the others made camp. He was separated from the party and never rejoined, and about a dozen gnolls ran him down alone. The attack on the camp was a different one, and the camp held.
Koa helped Yara bury him in the Valley of Doom and said the prayer to Vroga Waruk over the grave, correctly and without being prompted, which earned her genuine respect. She gave him the axe for it. Grishka, she said, would be glad to have it in his hands.
Koa gave her his terms as he took it: he would try to honor it, and use it only to break chains. Hours later, bargaining with hobgoblin poachers over three stolen eagle eggs, he put his sword and his horse on the table and would not put up the axe.
