Baku's secret clinic
The makeshift plain-clothes hospital Baku opened in a poor quarter for ordinary folk, and told nobody about
Baku opened the clinic because the main hospital had stopped being for everybody. Two thirds of its beds and the whole of its priority had gone to Beltran’s guard, which is what kept the doors open at all under him, so she put a second hospital in a poor quarter of Haudh-Gwenn and did not tell the Duke about it. The healers there wear ordinary clothes and no masks, which is the point of the place: nothing about it says Chantry, and nothing about it says who is inside.
By the day after Beltran died it was no longer secret in any practical sense. Patients were queued out of the makeshift building and into the street like an overflowing ward, neighbors who had picked up pitchforks and tool hammers stood guard over them, and behind a side door Chantry members were sleeping upright against the wall in whatever minutes they could take. Johanka Materai was recovering in one of its beds. Baku turned down an offer of swords for it: the clinic could hold against anything likely to come at it, and only a disciplined army would change that.
Outsiders still only suspect the place exists.
