Casimir Kasun
Commander of Vigil, a Peredhel battle commander who left the country over what it would have done to his children
Commander of Vigil, and one of the three who sit at the head of it. He is Peren, crimson-haired, and stands in full plate with a bastard sword on him even indoors. The office is the plainest of the three to come by: proven service, dedication and leadership, over enough years that the choice makes itself.
He was a battle commander of Peredhel before he was anything here, and he left the country so that his children would not be mette-hina. Vigil does not enforce the rite, which is a large part of why people cross the border for it, and he is one of them.
What comes of that, in a walled town on no map, is a man who does not care for outsiders and does not pretend to. He follows the letter of what the town has written down. Where Venessa Hasek does the talking and reads strangers as genuine or not, he starts from the assumption that a stranger is a problem and works from there.

He was the stern one in armor when the company first stood in front of the three, and he stayed the skeptic through the whole of the assessment. Where the Custodian was impressed by what the party said of themselves he was not, and when Aldo refused to rank his own deeds against one another, it was Casimir who said out loud that this was unwise. Venessa cut across him and took Aldo’s side, and the argument happened in front of Theresa Sarros, which is how that arrangement is meant to work.
The day after the verdict he came to the party’s quarters himself, Rafi announcing him at the door, and put them through their strategy for what they meant to do next: how they would fight gnolls, and how they would fight Beltran Grayeras. His judgment at the end of it was that they had a political strategy and no combat strategy whatever. The antagonism was deliberate and it was a test. The party saw the provocation and declined to rise to it.
