Fire-festivals
Summer rites of Krelene: braziers to burn off what a person would rather not carry, effigies of loss and love, and old battles played out in the street
A fire-festival is a public rite of Krelene, and what it is for is unburdening. Braziers are built large and lit in the open, and people bring to them whatever they would rather not carry any further and put it in the fire. Effigies go in beside it: a figure made for a loss, or for a love, burned in front of the whole street rather than grieved over quietly at home. Nothing is hidden at one of these.
Around the fires the crowd is given something to watch. Famous battles are staged, and famous love stories with them, played out for whoever has gathered by whoever will play them. Those are the two subjects the Burning Desire owns: hate and wrath on the one side, love and lust on the other.
They are common every summer in Peredhel, and less common in Galderia and in Idir.
Campaign Updates
Voler Bria called one in Haudh-Gwenn, in a city under riot, with his own Color Stay burning behind it. The festival was the cover: it put three hundred strangers in the road at an hour when a crowd was exactly what the Valiant Few needed in order to step out of the shadows in front of witnesses.
Two great braziers went up. Aldo lit them in the correct ritual order and narrated the rite over them with a good deal more confidence than knowledge, Koa beat a drum that carried across the district, and the reenactment staged was the sacking of Haudh-Gwenn, which everybody present had opinions about. The crowd stayed for the singing, and then for the fight, and went home believing it had watched a play.
