A Peren blade is the sword a Peredhel officer carries. It is held in one hand, and goes into two only for a strike deliberately meant to kill. Anyone who has not been trained on one finds it heavy and unwieldy in a way that shows immediately, and Leon Yaegar reckoned even Koa would fumble one.
That is what makes it worth watching rather than merely owning. A man’s grip on a Peren blade says whether he was ever really an officer, and it says so before he has said anything himself. Scout reports out of the sellswords loose in Haudh-Gwenn named one in a breastplate carrying what was probably a Peren blade, held the way only the trained hold it. That left two readings of the man: a genuine ex-officer of Peredhel gone to hire, or somebody who killed one and took his kit.
