"The dreaming"
Chantry of Tranquility doctrine on death: the mind goes into the dreaming when the body stops, and the soul stays there forever after
The Chantry of Tranquility holds that when the body dies the mind goes into the dreaming, and that the soul persists there forever more. It is the whole of the order’s teaching on death, and the order teaches it alongside everything else it holds from Isara.
The consequence of a doctrine that spare is that very little can contradict it. Mikhail told Müde, who runs the Chantry’s hospital in Haudh-Gwenn, what the Slumbering Queen’s reagent was actually made of: the souls of the city’s own people from across its history, consumed as fuel rather than worked as a catalyst, which is to say destroyed in the using. Müde did not flinch. “I do not presume to know what happens with souls after they die.” What he took from it instead was that the ancestors of Haudh-Gwenn had granted one last blessing to their descendants.
