Aldo's incendiary and thunderstone crossbow bolts

His specialty ammunition, fired from a Galderian solid-rod crossbow built to take attachments, and so paying no range for them

STANDING: ARMS · CROSSBOW BOLTS · ALDO

Ordinary ammunition has nothing hung off it. Aldo’s does, and the reason he can shoot it as far as anyone else shoots a plain bolt is that his crossbow was made to carry fittings rather than merely tolerate them. The incendiaries need no lighting beforehand: the flint-and-steel kit along the stock strikes the head as the bolt goes out, so a burning shot costs him no more time than a cold one.

He opened with an incendiary on the sellsword mage in the street and it barely scorched her. The next night one caught Khudan’s fur across a rooftop gap and set the whole chase going. The thunder bolts he saved, and spent two of them north of the river, thrown off the back of a seventeen-hand draft horse into the middle of a mercenary line that broke shortly after. One man in that line is deaf in one ear for the rest of his life.

Incendiary

  • Attack: −1.
  • Damage: +1 fire on a hit.
  • Catching fire: DC 15 Reflex, or 1d6 at once and 1d6 a round afterward until a save carries.
  • Putting it out: the save comes at the start of the burning creature’s own turn, and it can spend an action beating at the flames to better its odds.

Thunderstone

  • Burst: ten feet in every direction.
  • Effect: DC 15, or deafened for an hour.
