The arsonists' alchemy kit
Supplies, a recipe book and a job ledger, taken off the two brothers hired to burn the meeting places of Haudh-Gwenn
Two brothers were paid to burn the meeting places of Haudh-Gwenn with people still in them, and what they carried to do it with was not an alchemist’s kit so much as a tradesman’s. There are supplies, and there is a small book of recipes for alchemist’s fire and for accelerants that burn hot and burn long, and the pair had been working their way down the pages the way a competent man works through instructions he does not altogether follow. Mikhail has the Mól alchemy to read the book properly, and went through it in the rowhouse once the fighting was over.
Beside the recipes is a job ledger: what a given job would take, and what was spent on it. It marks two jobs done. Kaji, the brother taken alive, insisted the town hall was the only work they had ever been given, and the earlier entry consumed far more material than the town hall ever did. What burned first was never discovered.
The target list was written in haste by the brother who did the mixing and kept the book, the one Kaji called Tar. On it: the town hall, prominent homes, and councilors to be removed. Johanka Materai’s house was already crossed off by the time the party read it, having burned days before. One target was kept off the page deliberately, in case the page was ever found, and Kaji gave it up in conversation anyway: Traxian Grayeras’s house, with the man inside it. Beltran had hired the brothers, and had sent them after his own father.
The kit, the book and the ledger were all set aside for Ashanti.
