Detect Magic

Two forms of the same short sight, each spent in a single use: a scroll, and a potion that goes by mage sight. The potion runs as long as the scroll does and no longer.

Mikhail carried a scroll for a good while without spending it, then turned up the potion among ten alchemical vials taken off a corpse, which meant he was no longer down to one look. When he finally read the scroll he worked through what the party carried: a crown that came back stronger than anything else they owned, a weak ring, faint auras on the electrum circlet, on Koa’s sword and on three potions, and one more faint aura in Aldo’s pocket that nobody had thought to ask about. It ran out before the circlet or the ring gave up what they actually did.

He has been sparing with what is left. Offered the chance to burn another scroll on curiosity while Aldo was in real trouble, he refused.

Not everyone needs one. Mól-blooded mages see auras standing still, without scroll or word, and the Arcane Congress teaches everyone else the same sight as a spell.
