High Lady of House Arcium, and the noble to whom the magic of Amulta answers. Deciding what counts as a magical affliction is hers to do, and Magiauredo sits on her books as a hazardous one. Records of the disease are few and research toward curing it is quietly suppressed, both of which follow the classification wherever it is applied.

Nobody in the company has ever laid eyes on her. Her name has come up four times in five years and it was Gwenivere Velmont who raised it every time.
The first was in Gwen’s own shop, describing the illness that is killing her: there are brilliant people living in Amulta, and Lady Arcium could certainly crack this if she gave it her time, her resources and her own brilliance. What Mikhail took away from that conversation was a guess of his own, mana burn, and a name he could not place. He went looking through what he knew and found nothing attached to it, which is a trained mage having never heard of the woman who governs magic in the country next door. He kept the guess to himself when he next saw Gwen rather than add to what she was already carrying.
At Forven, years on, she wondered aloud whether Lady Arcium or Lord Bombo back home already knew what the company had turned up in the Mól ruins. Later still, with the disease visibly winning, she named Lady Arc as the one person who might hold what was left of her father’s research. He had been Amulta’s chief researcher into disease, and his estate and his newest notes burned together. Gwen did not write to her. Everything her father had done had been done under the sanction of Amulta’s nobility, and she was deeply unwilling to go back to them for anything.
