Apothecary of Loshev, who gave up an afternoon of his prayers to a sale and enjoyed every minute of it
An apothecary and alchemist of Loshev, and a friend of Yullen Gemsmith, which is the whole of how the company ever got through his door.
He is devout, and the afternoon he spent selling to them was an afternoon he owed to his day’s prayers. When the business finally wound up he shook his head at how long it had run, said he still had them to finish, and walked the three of them out so that he could lock the door behind them. That is what closed the shop, not the sale.
He enjoyed himself in the meantime. He took the smaller of the two stones out of the Mól ruins off them for six gold, put three smoke pellets in for nothing on the grounds that he had no way of knowing what color they burned and no way of selling them until he did, and let himself be talked into a fourth by Aldo, who had to work for it. You drive a hard bargain, friend, he told them, while they were still working out which way the bargain had gone.
His goodbye at the door was that if all of them were still alive, he would be glad to see them again the next time they came around town. Then he got a few steps down the road, slowed, and looked back. In case they had taken an empty shop for an open one, he said, he would warn them that it might not go well for them. He wished them a good one and went. Aldo very much wanted to know whether there was anything behind that and never went to find out.
They did not go back to him. When the company wants medicine in Loshev now they go down to the Lower Pier, and the counter they buy it over is Vess’s.
