Serra
Information-broker to the Silver Web, and one of the three lieutenants who run it
Information-broker to the Silver Web, and one of the three lieutenants who run the guild under Vaerlyn the Pale. She is a human woman, somewhere around thirty, quick and exact, and rarely seen unless she means to be seen. The guild’s spies, cutpurses and messengers answer to her, four of the twenty-seven directly. The dozens of contacts she keeps across Haudh-Gwenn are not counted among the guild at all.

She found the Valiant Few before anyone else in the guild did. The Mól ruins the party had moved into are the Web’s ground, and it was Serra who turned up the new residence; making contact was somebody else’s business, and it was made badly enough to leave Casper beaten near to death and put a shot through Mikhail’s leg.
So she came herself, at dusk, two men on the rubble behind her and her hands held out from her sides where they could be seen. Don’t worry, you’re not outnumbered. The apology came first and it was not hedged: Tony keeps things simple, and simple is often the wrong decision. She had not turned the party in for the bounty on their heads, and she said why. Coin is just coin. It comes and goes. What she wanted from them was worth more than that, and she had not settled on what it was. I suppose we can find out together.
She had settled on how to go about it, and told them that too. They were not people who could be manipulated easily, and not people who could be wrapped up without a mess being made around them, so the approach would be a gentle one. Koa tested it by promising to pull her organization apart piece by piece before he troubled himself with Beltran. Her eyes widened. She did not laugh at him, and she did not give ground.
The trading cost her more than she had reckoned on. Told that Beltran had bankrolled the Ten Lashes, and that he hunted the party because they had broken a slave of his, she said flatly that not knowing it already was embarrassing. What she paid for it was everything she held on Naevora Grayeras, and Tony’s strong backs to lift the rubble off the people still under it, which was not hers to give and had to be got from Dresk. This is a terrible game for you to play if you have no patience.
Koa was harder on her than the meeting required, and did it deliberately, to show Aldo he was not making friends of murderers. What the party carried away was a non-aggression understanding and the sense that they had put more into it than they had taken out, and they left it doubting they would work with the Web again.
