What is believed about the dead

One account of the dead goes like this. Creatures of the elemental planes are nothing but physical matter. Creatures of the outer planes are nothing but spiritual matter. A being of the prime material is both at once. From that it follows that there are no souls on the Inner Planes by the very nature of the place, not without certain parameters to allow it, and that a soul coming loose from a body goes outward instead, to the outer planes.

It was spoken over two things that happened as the Idiran curses broke. The first was the burning of the Haudh-Gwenn ooze, which was a living creature made by fusing the two kinds of matter together: hundreds of years of trapped people bonded to water-elemental essence. Burning it took them apart, and the people’s souls went out of the material plane to the outer planes while only the elemental essence went back to the inner ones. The second was Aldo, carried through the pinhole where two planes press against each other on the underside of a branch at the Twisted Grove. His body went through. His soul stayed on this side, and had to be fetched back to him afterward.

Beside it stands what the Mól taught and what the Elder described from inside the keeps: a soul joins the Inner Planes at death, carried on the Soular Winds, and becomes part of its plane over centuries. That is the passage Clan Saytar tried to hurry, and hurrying it is the sacrilege the curses were laid for.

No one in Erôth is named as holding the first of these, and no faith has claimed it. Whose belief it is was never written down.
