Triaxian

A gentle forest people of the Barren Lands who live concealed because the Karruk hunt them for their pelts and their meat

STANDING: PEOPLE · THE BARREN LANDS

A coniferous forest grows on the southeastern peninsula of the Barren Lands, which is a strange enough thing in that country, and a Triaxian enclave lives inside it. They are a gentle people and they work hard at not being found: they cover the traces of themselves, so that anyone who crosses into their ground comes out of it believing nobody lives there. Pushed far enough they will stand and fight, and what they fight for is the quiet rather than the land.

The reason for all of it is the Karruk, who value Triaxian pelts for clothing and Triaxian meat for its taste. Staying hidden is what has kept the enclave standing.

It is not keeping all of them. The Peren of Rast have driven many out of their homes, and several tribes are crossing the wasteland now in search of somewhere else to settle, which is the worst country in Erôth to be visible in.

They speak Kutā, a tongue nobody writes down, and they share it with the gnolls of the warm north. How that came about was never written down. Outside the Barren Lands they are hardly known to exist. Where the peoples of Erôth are set in order of how likely a traveler is to meet one, the Triaxians are filed with the goblins, the Terrane and the Námomycin: very rare, and anyone who does meet one will have trouble being believed about it afterwards.

Nothing connects them to Traxian Grayeras of Haudh-Gwenn. The two names merely sound alike.
