Two-ring Mól lock

A Mól door of this kind will not answer one ring. Two rings, worn by two different people, with both of them touching the doorway at once: the current runs out of one ring, through the wall and into the other, and the lock lets go. A single ring pressed flat against the same stone gives a faint vibration and nothing more — nothing opens, nothing shifts. It is enough to tell a man he has found the right stretch of wall and no help at all in getting through it. Finding the wall in the first place was done with picks, scraping until the brickwork stopped running continuous.

That is what stood between the company and the store room Torgun Kurvroc had spent decades filling under his Loshev house: a false wall, well made, with no latch and no catch anywhere on it. They had both rings on them the whole time and tried them one at a time. One is the Ring of Säv, which senses its own kind. The other is the plain Mól ring Aldo took out of a stone nook in the Valley of Doom years before anyone could say what it was for.

The lock itself sits above the door. Electrum runs invisibly through the whole frame, and the entire network of it collapses into one block of stone with a gem set inside. Hinta found it and knew the arrangement on sight, because it is how a Mól blade is built, the filigree running to a single socket, done at the scale of a room. Mikhail would not let her cut it open to learn what was in the gem. He wanted the door to go on locking, and he did not want a latch that anybody could pick.
