Pricing

How Pathfinder 1e prices become the coin of Erôth: one divisor per kind of goods, and why magic stays dear.

Every price in this campaign starts from the Pathfinder 1e books and is divided down to fit the coin the world actually uses. Pathfinder 2e prices sit far below Pathfinder 1e’s, and a character in this game carries the purse of the smaller economy. One rule per kind of goods keeps the two from drifting apart.

The divisors

GoodsDivide the PF1 price byNote
Weapons and ammunition÷10Two-handed and exotic blades come out dearer than PF2e’s own lists, on purpose.
Light armor÷10—
Medium armor÷15—
Heavy armor÷30Kept expensive by ruling. PF2e itself would divide by 50.
Shields÷5—
Masterwork, special materials, armor modifications÷10Craftsmanship, not magic.
Adventuring gear and alchemical items÷10—
Mounts, tack, transport and services÷10—
Hirelings×1Labor costs the same in both systems.
Healing potions÷12The Rio Vite makes them common. Cure light wounds is 4 GP.
Other potions÷10—
Scrolls and wands÷6—
Permanent magic÷4Wondrous items, rings, rods and staves.
The big bonus items÷3Cloaks of resistance, rings of protection, amulets of natural armor, bracers of armor, ability headbands and belts, and +1 weapons and armor.
Flight, invisibility, extradimensional space, luck÷2Magic that changes what a party can do, not just how well.

Why magic stays dear

A sword is a sword in either system, so its price falls by about ten. Magic does not, because in Erôth it is rare. Steel is divided by ten and magic by four, which makes an enchanted item two and a half times dearer, against the party’s purse, than the Pathfinder 1e book intended. The bonus items every adventurer wants cost more again, and the handful that change what a party can do at all (flight, invisibility, a hole in the world to keep things in) are dearer still. Healing potions are the exception. The Rio Vite makes them common, and they are priced like it.

Never use a Pathfinder 2e list price for a Pathfinder 1e item. Pathfinder 2e prices its magic by item level, so its cheapest runes are almost free and its best ones cost more than the Pathfinder 1e item they replace. The divisor exists so that every price on these pages comes from one book and one rule.

How prices are written

Prices are counted in Erôth’s coin: the platinum prince (PP, ten gold), gold (GP), silver (SP), copper (CP) and the brass sliver (BP, five to the copper). Above ten gold a price rounds to the whole coin, and above a hundred to the nearest five. Each page also shows the Pathfinder 1e price it came from, so a reader can check the arithmetic.
